In 2006 I've designed the fonts for the new Expresso, Portugal’s most prestigious weekly that changed from Broadsheet to Berliner format in September. The re-design was done by Javier Errea from Spain. I have created the exclusive typeface named Expresso with varaints text and headlines, as well as customized some of our existent fonts, FTF Stella and Grotzec, for their exclusive use. In 2010 they keep using the same fonts. At the 8th European Newspaper Awards, Expresso was awarded best designed European weekly, against strong favorites such as The Observer.
¶ While Expresso is already used by many other publications worldwide, I'm working on a full version to be released somewhere in 2010 that will include matching italics for all weights and a Deck version suited for medium sizes.
